Excellent location, where we find House Somian was recognized by Archduke John of Austria (Erzherzog Johann von Österreich) grandson of the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa.
–
He bought a vineyard estate in 1822 on Meranovo, which is written with golden letters in the history of winemaking. In 1832 archduke also established the first winery school in Slovenia.
–
Wines produced here were already in the 19th century sold to royal court in London and Vienna.
–
The Emperor himself visited Meranovo estate. It was Francis II., namely his brother. The memory of the event was carved in white marble:
„On June 16th 1830 Francis II., My lord and emperor, and his wife Carolina Augusta made everybody in my house happy with their presence and looked out at all the vineyards, I an Austrian archduke, carved this stone in eternal memory.“
